Forest of Despair
The Forest of Despair was the first woodland to be created by the gods. It is said that Bahamut sought to create the perfect race in an image of himself. He worked for 3 years tweaking and perfecting every detail of his creation, until finally he was satisfied and place his masterpiece in the most holiest of places, the land just outside the Manastream. They became a thriving culture, and masters of their own destiny, until they finally revealed their fatal flaw, vanity.
It started with a challenge. One swordsman claimed that he could best any man in a duel, but seeing as the entire race was equally perfect, there was no man who would turn down the challenge. So for days and days the duel raged on, each man fighting another, slaying him, and moving on to the next opponent. Finally, after a month of intense combat, a victor stood bloody but content. The problem was, he was the only survivor of his race, and eventually he too succumbed to his wounds.
Bahamut returned to check up on his creations. When he saw the senseless destruction and his life’s work destroyed, he wept. As he wept, his godly tears touched and moved the earth to give birth to new life. From each tear sprouted a tree, eventually accumulating into what we now know as the Forest of Despair.
